Built in 1872, Angel's casa and paladar is amply decorated with antique colonial objects, paintings and furniture. The art deco flooring was imported from Turkey and laid down here in 1912.
Angel, once an industrial engineer, rents two aircon bedrooms in Florida Centro, the original casa, one styled in colonial, the other is art deco. Each has its own modern private bathroom. The rooms — both regularly redecorated — open from a large flowery patio where plants and trees compete with orchids for sunlight and where dining guests regale — up to 50 at a time — the paladar is doing brisk business. The cuisine is absolutely fabulous and the hospitality equal to none : see our breakfast for one, below. One of the most remarkable casas on the island, its owner was twice awarded the Provincial Prize for "Best Conservation and Restauration of a monument", the first time an individual (not an institution) has won this special merit. Rates : 30CUC per bedroom per nite (35CUC Triple); breakfasts 5cuc, dinners 10-18cuc. |

FLORIDA TERRACE
Angel and Staff Calle Maestra Nicolasa (Candelaria) # 59, entre Colon y Maceo, three blocks from Parque Vidal. Room Reservations (42) 22-1580 4 FLOORS, 4 BEDROOMS, ROOFTOP BAR & TERRACE Across the street from the Florida Centro, now sits Florida Terrace - since Fall 2015. It used to be a partially-destroyed colonial palace hiding behind a high stone wall - unaccessible and sort of mysterious. That is, until Angel finally was able to acquire it after years of research and negotiations.
The new owner, already celebrated with rare State-awarded diplomas for renovations of the Centro at number 56, worked for more than two years to redo the narrow and high building, transforming its four floors into a four-bedroom casa with a flowered portal, open-aired floors cum balconies and a rooftop terrace and bar with dining tables and lounge chairs with a view, across the street of the now "old Florida Centro". Swedish Pro photographer Lasse Olsson has captured below some great light to highlight the main areas of FLORIDA TERRACE, one of Cuba’s newest and most lovingly-decorated casa particular. The new place offers guests some tranquillity between meals, something which was lacking across the street as the paladar was most times too busy and lacked privacy and intimacy. |
