Contrary to some buildings in the area this one is solid, secure and in a good state. |
The casa is part of an imposing edificio built in 1927 which also includes Hostal Casa Habana and Casa Dalia. In 2018, the couple moved from Baracoa where they had established, built and renovated the home of Yalina's parents, coffee traders of French descent. Their daughter and her husband manage it today. It is the family's casa in Baracoa. It's in this remarkable building on calle Habana next to Parque Cervantes - within walking distance of a dozen quality restaurants and Cuba's best-known bar, La Bodeguita del Medio - that Yalina and Gustavo live with their student son. And it is here that the couple rents 4 bedrooms upstairs and another on the ground floor - available for guests who cannot take the stairs. Each has a double bed (matrimonio) and a single bed (sencillo) is air-conditioned, has its own internal bathroom and a safety box and fan, all under (very) high ceilings. In addition each cuarto offers a window opening onto a space with table and chairs in the open air - which provides the sun without the heat in the shade and the calm, welcome in the always active old Havana with busy and sometimes noisy streets. Rates : 35€/US$ per bedroom per night; breakfast served (the hot chocolate is as good as in Baracoa); laundry service; the hosts will fill your bottle with purified water, avoiding plastic pollution and the search for water - an activity that tourists can do without. |

All these dots are restaurants. As the vast majority of casas in Cuba no longer serve dinners, guests need to find a good eating spot. Yalina and Gustavo live in the center of a nice choice of around 40 good restaurants. |

The couple additionally offer very good transportation references with honest staff; they make it a point of never imposing an unsolicited service.
Minor casa downside : there is no wifi signal in the casa, you have to go to the park to connect to the Internet. |
